- Summary
-
Efforts to develop new drugs and investigate their effects on the human body often require the use of nonclinical studies with radioisotopes (RI) and various kinds of animals. However, relevant institutions are experiencing difficulties with managing and disposing of the RI animal carcasses as well as the operation of systems for that purpose.
The present issue paper analyzes the current status and problems with RI animal carcass management in Korea, reviews the animal carcass management system and status in Japan, and proposes methods for the efficient future management and disposal of RI wastes in Korea.
